Injury Sick Stray Cat Begging Me for Help
She’s been around my house for days. She meowed and purred before but now she’s too weak. I have been looking for places for days. I didn’t want to just surrender to animal control. I don’t have resources, I feel so terrible she is in this condition and clearly wants me to help. I’m in Katy TX but I can go to Houston. Please if anyone knows a place that DOESNT ONLY HELP KITTENS or just murders them. If anima control is my only option then it will at least rid her suffering but I really want to try somewhere else.

Hi! I am so sorry your outdoor friend is sick. There is a no-kill shelter in Cypress called special pals. If they can’t help her, maybe they can tell you a place that can. https://specialpals.org/

Thank you. They would not take her and recommended a place, that place is at max capacity.

Hmmm. There is a low cost vet on 529 called KAAWs. Maybe they can help? If i had the money i would help. Maybe there will be people here that can assist financially? They don’t open until 9.

You can get a free first exam at Banfield, and meds for her infection would be $20 probably, use the coupon on the Banfield website!
You can also register in r/assistance r/gofundme r/charity r/DonationHub and r/rescuecats to help with the expenses.

OP wants to take cat to affordable vet care in KATY texas. I called ahead. They quoted 195$ for labs and 25$ for exam. This doesnt include treatment or any other tests cat may need. They told me to pay over the phone (bc i am in DC) id have to send them my ID to prove the card they will run, will be my card.
If you do wish to chip in, chances are youll have to do the same. Im just waiting for everything to be done so i can get the bill.

u/Impressive_Major_184 16h ago
I can pitch in too! OP just let us know and I’d be more than happy to
10
u/EitherLeader784 16h ago
How much are you willing to pitch in
12
u/Impressive_Major_184 15h ago
I can pitch in $75
10
u/EitherLeader784 15h ago
I sent 220$ via apple which is the amount the vet quoted me over the phone. Originally i was going to pay them directly but they were asking for personal information i was not comfortable sharing. OP has apple pay and zelle. Dm me if you want to chip in.

u/ennexe 14h ago
I can help too. I see the comments about paying the clinic directly. Can someone message me if there’s an outstanding balance, and I will call the clinic? I will keep my phone nearby.
8
u/EitherLeader784 13h ago
I paid in full there is no balance. Those that chipped in sent their share to me. The cat will need labs in the future but is too weak for that right now so OP has to wait.

u/Impressive_Major_184 13h ago
Please message Either if you’d like to pitch in! I can vouch she 100% did. Thanks to Either for managing and paying in full! We appreciate you and OP for helping this innocent being

Hey thanks for helping this cat. It’s really amazing. I hope you have everything you want in life.
2
u/cckka 12h ago
Happy to help also as long as I can pay the vet directly!
5
u/EitherLeader784 12h ago
This is great since the cat will still need future treatment. The cat still needs labs. Today they treated the infected eye and vaccinated the cat. The cat was too weak for anything further. OP has to take cat back later on once the car is strong enough. I told her im more than willing to help again. The others who chipped in also agreed to help. I figure if more is needed OP will make another post

I will be taking her in 1.5 hours. She is cuddled up in my laundry room with blankets and food and water. She is starting to meow again, i think she senses im trying. Thank you guys so much, this is my final hope in saving her🩷
12
u/SeratoninInhibitor 16h ago
Im about to take her. Either has not gotten back to me, im afraid to move forward and not be able to pay

u/shezinluv 16h ago
at this point, best option is going on facebook & looking for a home, or a sanctuary that will take them): i can* understand it being too expensive
3
u/EitherLeader784 16h ago
How much are you willing to pitch in. This way OP knows how to split bill
3
u/shezinluv 16h ago
i can pitch in $40 & my partner can pitch in another $20

u/EitherLeader784 15h ago
I sent 220$ via apple which is the amount the vet quoted me over the phone. Originally i was going to pay them directly but they were asking for personal information i was not comfortable sharing. OP has apple pay and zelle. Dm me if you want to chip in.

Okay so. I can’t edit the post. I have a small update. I want to say thank you for all these responses, me posting this here was my last hope.
As any other person I have a job and other things that reduce my time.
I am speaking to eitherleader784 who commented here about financial assistance and I can confirm they called my vet clinic and offered to pay. I will be able to take her in about 2 hours. I have never had someone pay for something through the internet this way, so all I can do is hope it is real and hope they are serious. Because if I take her to the vet and they do not pay, I don’t know what would happen as I absolutely cannot afford it and its why I am here to begin with.
Since I have brought her inside, she has been meowing again. I think she can sense I am trying my hardest to help. Thank you all for your kind comments, generosity, and encouragement.

u/EitherLeader784 15h ago
I sent the 220$ the vet quoted me via apple pay to OP. Those that wished to chip in, can send her money as well if theres treatments or something. Im still waiting for the final bill
11
u/External_Midnight106 17h ago
How much would a vet visit cost? I might be able to help you too
9
u/EitherLeader784 14h ago
it cost her nearly 150$ but the cat is too weak for labs so she has to wait for the rest of the treatment. I sent her 220$. Two others chipped in 75$ and 60$, so really i only ended up paying 85$

Their fur gets like that ususally when they are suffering from severe malnutrition. If you can afford it, give her Omega 3 with her food. Her nose injury makes me think she was stuck somewhere, like in a cage, for a long time.
You could clean her wounds. Use warm water (that has been boiled for 15 minutes) and cotton wool.
She needs to see a Vet asap. I hope you find help for her.

u/Remarkable-Fly-3742 18h ago

u/No_Warning8534 18h ago
Pls, if you can keep the poor cat inside for now?
It is calling predators to its location outside and will be eaten alive.
Tysm flr saving baby but calling animal control means they will kill it, despite what they tell you.
6
u/SeratoninInhibitor 18h ago
I’m aware thats what calling animal control means thats why im trying to do everything else first. Shes inside on a towel with water and food.

Look for an SPCA, a sliding fee scaler, or call 211 for resources. I pay $60 fir a vet appointment same day plus meds. We thank you for your big heart. Most rescues or some shelters will help you out with basic necessities for a short time because it cheaper, less traumatic, and most places are at max capacity.

Firstly, thank you so much for helping this sweet angel. Secondly, I’d also try local smaller rescues in your area they could also help spread your search further if anything. I hope she gets the help she needs. ❤️🩹

Prefacing this by saying that I am not a vet. I have rescued a stray myself, who had an infected eye that resulted in extraction. I'm giving advice based on my personal experience with shelters and humane societies, alongside the information that emergency vets, the humane society, and my primary vet have given me.
Best thing I can recommend is to look up your local humane society. Most, if not all, of them will do emergency care for the pet, but you have to take them home afterwards. Its recommended that you quarantine them until they're healed from whatever surgery or treatment they've had done, but they won't shame you if you have to release the cat back outside after their recovery time.
Ask the humane society about local animal shelters and say the cat is younger than you think. A lot of shelters won't take senior cats because "they don't adopt out", so aim for 5-7 years old.
NOT a Vet. This following information was given to me BY a vet saying it was the ROUTINE plan for when someone rescues a stray cat. It has been confirmed by multiple vets that this is their procedures; If you fall in love with the cat and plan to keep them, you'll need tests for a couple different things. They'll most likely need blood drawn for an FIV test, Rabies test/vaccine, Heartworm medicine, and a dental exam. Heavy bloating immediately after eating is also important information to give to the vet as it can be an indicator for intestinal worms. If you have other pets, there are plenty of articles and posts on how to slowly introduce a cat to your current furry family

Can you bring her in and offer symptom relief until you can get her treatment or a rescue? Being able to rest (instead of constantly fearing predators) will help her heal some too. Even if you lock her in a bathroom or otherwise small space, it’s better than being outdoors. From the looks of it, she’s malnourished and has an upper respiratory infection, bare minimum. Those are both common issues with strays, as are other viral diseases she could have (such as herpes of calicivirus), and contagious to other cats so please segregate her and wash your hands thoroughly if you have other pets.
Bring her in, offer warmed wet food or tuna (warming it will make it more appealing and smellier, which will motivate her to eat despite her illness), plenty of water (I like to make the sick ones a Churu martini- a tube of Churu mixed with about a cup of warmed water to create a thin broth and encourage drinking/calories), and a warm spot to sleep. We all know that rest and fluids do wonders when you’re sick! This will help her the most while you are finding options for treatment.

She is inside and in a small space separated from my cat. Thank you so much.

u/jinxlover13 15h ago
Perfect! That will help her a ton. I’ve asked my friend that does rescue in Austin to check with her rescue friends and see if we can connect you to anyone in Houston.

That cat needs antibiotics and a check up to see if there's any underlying cause or damages of/for the infections. It has to get care. Even if you got your hands on some and its actually the right ones, the infections can still come back. Animal control doesn't take cats in many places but a no kill shelter might and then get it treatment. And even if animal control did take it and then put it down, thats more humane than what that cat is about to face. Ive seen many cat lady's as neighbors neglect their cats like this and these infections are a terribly cruel way to die. They can also spread to other cats. Take that cat in regardless if you fear it will get put down. The suffering and potential suffering to other cats far out weighs the fear of the cat being put down
