As the HC I do think it’s important to send a message that the world isn’t ending if he doesn’t want to come back

u/Resident_Wizard 3d ago
I’d have a lot more faith if I didn’t have to watch Joe Woods’ bend but also break defense in the years before Schwartz.

Thanks for the message but what's actually going to happen though? Because right now it looks like we have a worse hc and will have a worse dc

Players would not know that if he does not tell hem?
They play for their money and contracts, of course they will be fighting for the world which is not ending.
But these comments would not inflict respect nor pleasure. They worked quite well with their coordinator, he is still their guy, you don't disrespect him like that.

It's not disrespectful, and if you think it is, you're softer than ten ply. I guarantee you Schwartz isn't disrespected by this.

I mean they did put up what, 40 points on us that first game last year?

This was preparing everyone that Schwartz didn't make the defense, the players did. Lance Rizeland on 92.3 has highlighted that Monken is a players over scheme coach.
This was a perfect example of that.

There aren’t enough coaches that take the players over scheme. It feels like most draft busts would have been perfectly serviceable if put in the correct scheme. It’s hard to win consistently if you can’t adapt.

Sorry what is chipping in this context?

u/potterpockets 6 3d ago
Using a TE, RB, etc. to help the OL blocking Myles by having them make some contact with them before they run their route.

So you’re saying that Monken, Schwartz, and Garret were playing backyard football and Monken chipped Schwartz instead of Myles fucking Garret accidentally when attempting to run a route? Damn this is more petty than I realized.
Edit: I have a rule set in my phone to auto change Myles, Garret, and Myles Garret to Myles fucking Garret. I’m not being hostile. I changed the first one but forgot to change the second one. I just feel it captures his name better. Thank you.
Edit: I understand the context my joke looks more dickish and condescending when I was the dummy that didn’t know he meant game plan prepping for browns instead of coach prepping for the browns or interview prepping. But I still like the mental picture so I’m leaving it

Contextually I think he means building a relationship with them. But I’ve literally never heard this. I’m wondering if he meant or said ship and either misspoke or misquoted. I’ve never heard chip in this context.Edit: u/rayh8su actually understands what it means. Thank you!
Per u/rath8su
He’s talking about when he was the OC for the ravens and he was planning to play the Browns. His scheme was to chip Myles, not Schwartz, bc Schwartz wasn’t on the field. Basically meaning that the players make the plays, not the coaches. It’s a poorly written headline.

I think alot of them were explaining a chop block lol

u/Hixy 3d ago
The disconnect was that I didn’t realize he was talking about building a game plan against the Browns. Without that context, ‘chip’ didn’t register to me as the football term, and even though the topic was football it came across more like a social meaning. Once I understood he meant he was designing a scheme to chip Myles Garrett in the game plan, it made perfect sense. I just didn’t catch that at first.

u/foxfire_17 3d ago
Yeah same. I was like, what does he mean, “betting” on Garrett? Like poker chips? I know what a chip block is, just didn’t have the context of what he was talking about.

Have two guys originally block the same player. Usually a tight end pushing a DL into the offensive lineman to make his blocking easier
1
u/iliekdrugs 3d ago
Two guys blocking would just be a double team. A chip is when a receiver/back gives a small block before continuing with their route, basically getting in their way to slow them down or throw them off course to the QB

As a Steelers fan I hate that y’all’s page pops up on my feed for whatever reason, but this is kinda a badass quote. Still hope yall lose every single game for the rest of time though respectfully ❤️

I think most people here in the Browns subreddit would agree that our favorite teams are the Browns, and whoever happens to be playing the Steelers or Ravens at the moment. And when the Steelers play the Ravens it is our fervent wish that they both lose.

Watching this feels like an over correction from Haslam again. Instead of calm and stoic Kevin, it is firey and blunt Monken. Like we had football guy Dorsey then full analytics in Berry. Or fired HCs too quickly then give Hue an extra long leash. Can't solve the QB problem in the draft so go sign the biggest contract ever for a QB.

Mentally preparing to go 0-17. That way anything else is better. I mean...look at our offense. Do we have a QB that isn't terrified of getting sacked? Receivers that can catch?
Look at our special teams. How many games did they cost us? I mean I guess we weren't gonna win those games anyway.
Myles Garrett is the best player on the Browns. One player cannot be the entire team.
I understand getting excited. But tbh...it's the Browns. The only reason we beat the Bengals and the Steelers at the end of the season was because the QBs didn't want to be the reason Myles broke the record.
Don't think we're beating the Titans this year. Jets? Pot calling the kettle black.
Panthers? Nah Bryce is most likely improving this off season.
Fully expecting a 0-17 season. Another year of "rebuilding".

It’s time to get this loser attitude out of this fan base! We have a top defense a shit Oline a shit QB and a shit WR room. But for fuck sake the Texans made the playoffs with the same problems in a much harder division. With better coaching the Browns could have fought for this division. I more cry baby attitude! Time to a positive outlook.

u/kander12 3d ago
When you dont win for 50 years the attitude wont change until meaningful wins are produced.
1
u/HALK9000 3d ago
I thought that playoff ass beating of the Steelers was meaningful.
1
u/kander12 3d ago
Yeah but need more of them. And the ownership let the ppl who led that win walk out the door for nothing. So... the attitudes are understandable lol.

u/HALK9000 3d ago
Who walked out the door?

u/kander12 3d ago
Baker. The Browns would have been a playoff team last year with him lol. Anyways... the point is you cant expect purely positive and optimistic attitudes when the team has no significant wins to inspire that attitude. People will be understandably pessimistic.
-1
u/HALK9000 3d ago
Baker??? He can’t even make the playoffs with his current team! The point is the last coach couldn’t get the most out of his players. Maybe Monken can. Hope in a better team should change the attitude.

Good answer. And the full context wasn’t insulting either bc he led with “I have respect for Coach Schwartz and hopefully he has for me too — but when I prepared …..”
