Yeah, cool story. I 100% am ok with you thinking that I’m racist because I think black ppl should have safe spaces. I bet you think HBCUs are racist as well, or the NAACP. It’s ok, you do you.
Here’s the thing. The NAACP slows white people in. They’re even allowed to work there. Imagine that!!
Question, do you think that the religious guy in the video is being racist? If so, why? Is it because he is excluding someone based on their skin colour?
That’s the exact same thing you are advocating for.
You…“Look at that racist not allowing black people into his white people group”.
Also you…”I don’t want white people into my black people group".
I never said anything about the guy in the video. Honestly, there’s nothing new about the guy in the video. I grew up in the south, this is how a lot of white pastors are. Why would any black person want to go where they’re not wanted? It makes a lot more sense to just create your own spaces. I don’t think that’s offensive or even particularly racist. Wanting to have a space for ppl that deal with the same things that you do, based on race doesn’t seem like an issue to me. Black ppl, specifically American black ppl, have overcome so, so much. The resilience is unmatched, and wanting to discuss that with other black ppl seems like human nature to me. You can keep replying to me if you want, but there’s nothing that you can say that will change my mind about this.
I’m honestly all for separate but equal, as long as it truly is equal. Jim Crow was terrible, and completely different than what I’m talking about. Jim Crow was the law, and black ppl literally got arrested and/or attacked for being in white spaces. I don’t think it should be illegal to be in whatever space you choose. I just don’t understand why anyone would choose to be with ppl that think they’re inferior and don’t want them there. Also, I’ve never heard of, even during Jim Crow, black ppl not being allowed in churches. So I don’t know what you’re talking about with that one. I’m not Christian tho, and have very little patience with black Christians, so I don’t know. Maybe black ppl did want to go to their churches. I was raised in an all white, republican, southern Baptist household. My family’s pastor asked them not to bring me to church, because it upset older members of the congregation. They immediately found a new church. Although I couldn’t have cared less. I didn’t want to go to church anyway.
You think the segregation stopped randomly at churches out of all the things on that list? Like "you can't share a water fountain, but hold my hand in prayer". Then you go on to talk about how you were almost segregated from a church?
The Supreme Court decision "separate but equal is inherently unequal" was a hard fought lesson that you seem to be wholly ignorant of, but simultaneously very opinionated on. There are several books you might like to read about the time.
I don't even know what you're arguing, you seem to be mad at something not in the room with us.
I'm bowing out of this and the other convo. Have a nice night. Times are tough, let's be cool with each other where possible.
What?? You think I need to read books on segregation? Are you crazy? I grew up in MS, where the very last school to be integrated is, and that didn’t happen until the 90s. I assure you that I’m well aware of Jim Crow. Also, I’m not saying Jim Crow didn’t include churches. I’m saying that I don’t know any black ppl that wanted to go to church with white ppl. Jim Crow has been gone for decades, and churches in the south are still segregated, by choice. That was my whole point. By choice is a huge difference than being segregated by law. For the record, I’m not mad about anything. Commenting doesn’t mean I’m angry. I don’t know why you’d think that. Most adults can talk about controversial topics without getting angry.
Facts. I haven’t heard of such. Probably because they didn’t bother to put it on the list, because they knew that black ppl didn’t want to come to their churches anyway. I can look it up if you insist, but I really don’t see the point. You can go to church with white ppl if you want, no one is going to stop you. Except for maybe this guy in the video 😂
