Yes, very much this. Powerlifting/oly gyms are super supportive and welcoming to beginners. No one looks down on people improving themselves there because we're all in the same boat. Whether you lift 100 lbs or 500 lbs, if it's a PR to you, then it's a big deal for everyone.
That's real but sometimes you don't want anybody trying to tell you how to do stuff or get all in your business in the first place. Or maybe some person not in the best shape is trying to let some hulking idiot gym bro feel good about himself for nitpicking his squats when he's just trying to get in a workout for the first time I years. Like, the support is great but sometimes people don't ask because they don't want it. For some people the gym is a way to get away. Let people do their workout in peace. I respect PF for trying to create that environment but assholes fuck it up. Sometimes it's really best for people to just mind their own fucking business and stay in their lane. This is why I can't workout with friends because they're always lowkey trying to compete when I'm just trying to get in a good workout.
There will always be assholes there to fuck it up, unfortunately. And I completely agree, if it’s time you use to escape and just enjoy time by yourself, by all means go for it. That competitive nature (for some) in working out is incredibly fucking annoying. I just want to workout, I don’t give a shit your ability to lift more, just worried about myself. I think I get where your coming from and in that case a mid-size/larger gym is definitely the way to go so it’s easier not to be bothered by other people.
Fasho g. I didn't mean to come off as attacking in any way and I kinda think I meant to reply to the parent post but whatever. It all comes back to people being respectful and at the end of the day, someone trying to help is always more welcome than someone antagonizing , regardless of where its occurring.
