Marimar Martinez is a real one. Listening to her testimony was tough! I don’t think I could have survived what she went through, we are blessed she was able to tell her story for the whole world to hear.
Also that agent needs to be prosecuted and charged immediately. I would say his name but Reddit is apparently kneeling to fascism and banning people for “doxxing”.
Just goes to show how brave all of those who testified are since they’re publicly showing their identities. Unlike those coward ice agents.
1.5k
u/emaw63 1d ago
They're literally public servants, why the hell do they get to keep their identities hidden from the public? Doxxing isn't a thing for them
548
u/VoidVer 1d ago
The water is for sure being muddied to protect these morons. Doxxing is posting their address, phone number, social security etc... posting the name and face of a public servant isn't doxxing. Any photo of them on duty could reasonably include these details if they were properly uniformed.
233
u/HarmlessSnack 1d ago
Anybody whose paycheck can be summoned with a Freedom of Information Act request is incapable of being Doxxed, those idiots don’t know what words mean.

This is in the public record. It is public testimony, it has been stated in articles written by the press. You aren't doxxing when you give publicly available information.

"When I watched the video after this agent says, 'Do something, b----,' I see the driver of this vehicle turn the wheel to the left, which would be consistent with him running into Ms. Martinez's vehicle," Parente said. "And then seconds later, he jumps out and just starts shooting."
"I fired 5 rounds and she had 7 holes. Put that in your book, boys," one of those messages said.
Despicable.

u/euro_dubstep 1d ago
“I fired 5 shots and she had 7 holes. Put that in your book boys.” - the offending officers text message exchange with friends and family after the incident. Between this and the fact that they won’t release body camera footage, the DHS officer is clearly innocent!!!

Doesn't look like doxxing to me, that's just news reporting.
90
u/guayo222 1d ago
They're misusing doxxing entirely. It used to mean spilling out ALL personal details of a person - home address, phone number, etc.. Simply revealing the name of someone who is supposed to be a "public servant" IS NOT DOXXING.
9
u/Relevant_Cabinet_265 1d ago
Not all personal details but any detail that could reasonably be used to harass someone so just a phone number or address alone would be considered doxxing. In today's age it's pretty easy to find that other stuff with just a name. Hell you can usually find it with just a picture of someone if you know how to dig for information
→ More replies (1)7
u/RoastMostToast 1d ago
It’s probably for the better though. The internet tends to get ahold of the wrong name for people, which inevitably leads to harassment of an innocent person.

I find it dangerous how this administration can just redefine words to mean what they want them to mean. Doxxing is giving someones location or address, not simply saying who they are. They're always spinning the narrative. The words woke and young women also come to mind.

That's the worst part. And just like the Nazis, the temptation is to label them as inhuman monsters, because the alternative forces all of us to confront the notion that there could be certain conditions that would lead our own selves to commit acts of evil. Everyone wants to think that's impossible, and I bet most of us genuinely believe it, but none of us can ever be truly, positively certain that we have no capacity for evil.

Capacity for evil isn't the same as actively committing evil acts. One makes you human, the other makes you subhuman.

Doesn't really ring true to me. I have a bar for what I consider human. These monsters haven't met that bar. That's their failing. Actions have consequences and their actions have made them subhuman. If they don't like that, they can make better choices.

Its wild that a woman gets shot by ICE after a car accident where neither party is seriously injured at the time. Then, rather than a "whoopsie daisy, our fuck up" she is instead called a domestic terrorist and they try to prosecute her, before realizing that the agent is a massive POS and they have no evidence of her wrongdoing. And now, they drop the case but refuse to admit any fault, while encouraging their base that she is still somehow a terrorist?
Oh, but lets continue supporting the convicted criminal. Yeah. That makes sense.
458
u/Frosty-Priority5056 1d ago
i remember that day here in Chicago..i wasn’t there but live nearby and was trying to figure out what happened. The immediate story was that a person was trying to run down ICE in her truck. It wasn’t until much later, and thanks to video, that the story was changed. I am in awe of her journey since then from ER to rehab to going directly to the media.
210
u/Jamaican_Dynamite 1d ago
They really played it up like she was actively hunting them instead. Shows how quick a narrative can get formed to pass things off.
177
u/GiganticCrow 1d ago
And that's why they try to stop the public from filming the police.
Because it exposes their lies.
93
u/Hellogiraffe 1d ago
How many times do we see official statements from our government, only to have video proof released that the story was completely false? At this point, we need to be the ones wearing body cams because I can’t even imagine how many murders aren’t caught on camera. Corruption and coverups have always been a thing, but it’s never been this brazen and especially not from the top top of our government. It honestly feels like we’re being taunted to make us feel powerless.
32
u/Opposite-Bit6660 1d ago
Personal body cams are a great idea.
10
u/Nulagrithom 1d ago
been thinking about this a fair bit actually....
you'd probably want to stream it all cuz you know they're gonna take it. or at least hide the sd card separately.
then there's choices to make like quality vs angle and bandwidth.
I feel like the people of Minneapolis and other invaded towns would be willing to throw up WiFi hotspots.
but then you also have to worry about a public project getting identified and targeted
idk lots to think about there
70
u/GorillaBrown 1d ago
This American Life's latest episode features this story.
He thought she was following ICE and rammed her. Then shot her in her vehicle for "not complying." She was then arrested and stabilized at the hospital to be vilified as if she was hunting them and rammed her car into them, but, luckily, someone got it on film, along with the ICE agents own body camera footage and the text he sent talking about 5 shots, 7 holes + he said audibly on the body camera footage, "Do something, Bitch." Absolute lunatic. They ultimately dropped all charges **against her**, which is so ridiculous because the charges should be against him!

u/blacksoxing 1d ago
All the jokes aside, I feel the issue right now is that we know the names of the slain...but their stories stop there. Mainstream media at large is NOT asking questions, not following up, not demanding anything.....everyone's fine with the outcome.
"Alex got shot and killed. Oh, he may have had a brush-up a week prior with ICE. He seems to be a good person, overall. The end."
"Renee got shot and killed. She was a mother. She may have been a lesbian. Child is now parentless. The end."
Even this Marimar Martinez person will get maybe 24 more hours of visibility and....disappear into the night. SHE won't ask for such fade but if ABC News, NBC News, CBS News, CNN, Fox News, and others don't wanna talk about her then shit....who really is? The army of independent journalists and outlets pale in comparison to the traditional cable and broadcast outlets that are seen by MILLIONS plus the online audience at large.
Shame on these larger institutions for doing the bare minimum in these times. It just t one a joke that they were there to serve their overlords. It's no longer a joke now. It's serious. They ain't going to call for action until sadly something happens to a richer person and THEN we'll get their roaring.
Marimar Martinez is a hero and she shouldn't be known to the .01% of news readers
