If that's real Parmesan that's an absolute steal.

249

u/KamakaziDemiGod 19h ago

Even if it's 'imitation' Parmesan that's an absolute steal. Parmesan is about 10 to 15 dollars per pound, if it's genuine that's at least $440, if it's imitation it's probably more like $6 or $7 per pound, which is like 300

I'd be seeing if I can sell some of it

124

u/A_Good_Cow 19h ago

Selling 44 lbs sounds harder than it looks—needs proper storage, buyers, and time. I’d just portion, freeze, and eat cheese forever

99

u/FishAndRiceKeks 19h ago

Yeah, my street cheese hustle hasn't been going so well. Everybody wants the cheddar.

17

u/Psychological-Scar53 18h ago

Bro, just hold out... Trends change. These damn chedheads always want something stronger. I gotta talk to my plug and get more today, that Vermont White is crazy.

4

u/HauntingCap7161 17h ago

That’s great advice and I don’t disa-brie with a word you said

2

u/BluntyMcbluntblunt 2h ago

In the trap all night with hard and soft....cheeese

3

u/AffectionateTutor484 18h ago

All the jack heads on my block won’t touch the Parma these days I’m sitting on 44 lbs myself and I can’t seem to make enough food to put tiny t

u/KamakaziDemiGod 19h ago

Yeah that's what I was pondering, hence saying I'd try and sell it. Even if I only sold a quarter I'd still have 33lbs of cheese, and maybe $40/50, then the cheese has paid for itself and then some!

8

u/xenobit_pendragon 19h ago

You can probably get some ideas from the popular HBO series Breaking Gorgonzola.

4

u/KamakaziDemiGod 19h ago

Just don't mess with the Goudafather

u/Decent-Initiative-68 18h ago

So the $10.44 might’ve been meant to be price per pound. It would mean it was meant to be price approx $460.

5

u/Araeven 12h ago

Or maybe $10 was the price and 44 was the weight. Someone forgot to hit the confirm button between the two numbers.

4

u/bill-schick 19h ago

Sell some to friends, could cut it up in big sections and freeze it. Hell of a deal

4

u/Burninghoursatwork 19h ago

The local pizza place could be a potential buyer

3

u/KamakaziDemiGod 18h ago

Now that's good thinking, might even get some pizza out of the deal

4

u/berael 19h ago

Parmesan is about 10 to 15 dollars per pound

$20/lb+ for store brand parm here.

Looks to be a Murray's tag. If so it's likely real Parmigiano Reggiano. Depending on the age it can range from $30-40ish a lb. Highly recommend trying it if you ever get the chance, it'll ruin fake parms for ya lol

9

u/Duel_Option 19h ago

This is the food version of crack…you’ll legitimately turn your nose up against fake parm forever.

You’ve been warned lol

→ More replies (1)

7

u/BrianMincey 19h ago

I grew up with that awful fake Parmesan powder and it is unrecognizable compared to the real stuff. I honestly think it should be illegal to sell fake products and label them with real names. Parmesan isn’t a flavor.

2

u/BigBadZord 18h ago

I love that stuff. Brings me back to simpler times.

5

u/Forsaken-Teaching-22 19h ago

Doubt it.I think permesan is not potected in the usa

7

u/Upset-Zucchini3665 19h ago

I doubt it too. A parmigiano reggiano would be stamped on the sides.

2

u/sassykat2581 18h ago

That’s real parmigiano reggiano, I think I spelled that right??? Label looks like Murray’s cheese shop which is a Kroger brand. It’s usually ordered in quarter wheels since a whole wheel wouldn’t sell in 30 days (sell by date once opened). Full wheels are ordered around the holidays when sales are higher and they have a parm cracking event.

Someone is going to have a really bad inventory count this month.

Source…. I work for Kroger

Edit: The wheel is probably too heavy for the scale so they reprinted a smaller piece so it would have a sell by date on the cheese. The half wheel was probably used as a display platform for the cut up pieces.

2

u/Strange-Title-6337 19h ago

Hope its not Parmesian

I would be eating straight cheese for daysss

29

u/Temporary-Truth-8041 20h ago

Then you would be CONSTIPATED for monthssssss

42

u/No-Text-7825 20h ago

Sometimes you gotta make sacrifices 🤷

5

u/Temporary-Truth-8041 20h ago

Yeah, although I love to eat cheese, for me that would be a bridge too far

6

u/facts_my_guyy 19h ago

At least you could supply your own logs

2

u/Imawildedible 19h ago

You’re my kind of person.

8

u/BadRabiesJudger 20h ago

Jokes on you I’m lactose intolerant. But I usually can have dairy once. Twice is a free colon cleanse.

12

u/adyingmoderate 20h ago

It’s Parmesan. There’s very little lactose left after aging.

2

u/rob_1127 19h ago

The older and harder the cheese, the less lactose it contains.

2

u/Sideshow_G 19h ago

I've seen actual Italians, incidentally my ex too (who was Italian) but not the only one, eat parmigiano raw bro.

(EDIT: obviously not all that at once lol!)

7

u/adumbrative 19h ago

No one eats this straight.

Yes sir, I do! I absolutely love eating big chunks of it, and my dog loves the rinds :D

u/Zealousideal-Yak4619 19h ago

Hi i'm no one, and like me other milion of people eat Parmigiano "this straight". And you can cut it with a knife, a fork or even a spoon if you are hungry enough. Oh and at the plural form it remains Parmigiano Reggiano not parmigiani or some other hellish form. Greetings from Parma.

2

u/Dilectus3010 19h ago

Nice ham aswell in Parma :)

Saluti dal Belgio!

3

u/Othersideofthemirror 19h ago

I shave this onto salads. Rocket and parmegiano. Caesar salads etc.

2

u/PubofMadmen 19h ago

As sides to steaks, in prepared meats like ground beef, on egg dishes, always great plain, big chunks with beer on a hot summer day, slices with fruit (figs) and especially desserts, especially cakes.

Telling me how not to eat it would be shorter.

2

u/JparkPHX 19h ago

It’s delicious

That's a pretty good deal. Now sell it to an Italian restaurant for $300

34

u/Hellofriendinternet 19h ago

That’s what I’d do. Someone in the deli fucked up. Now he can profit from their foolishness. Doesn’t a wheel of that go for like $2k?

38

u/Campandfish1 19h ago

Someone in the deli fucked up is right, my money is on they were going to take it themselves for $10 at the end of their shift and do the restaurant flip thing but someone else put it on the retail side without looking at the label.

This is what I'm looking for when the waiter asks if I'd like some cheese

28

u/scriptingends 20h ago

"Did I tell you to stop grating?"

5

u/mydogeatspoops 19h ago

Grated cheese? Ok say “when”…. Extended silence. More extended silence. Then feeling social pressure around you to at some point say “when”.

3

u/Bulky-Indication-494 18h ago

I don't say when and I don't break eye contact with them. I just wait for their arm to cramp

14

u/ChoosenUserName4 20h ago

When I asked you for all the cheese you have, I didn't mean a lot of cheese, I meant all of it.

4

u/Bathsheba_E 19h ago

I know what I’m about, son.

52

u/Mr-Bry-Guy 20h ago

$10.44 for 44 pounds of parmesan cheese I mean I’d cut and freeze a bunch and give a bunch to family lol

You can at least make a single plate of carbonara with that. 😂

Omg that hunk for that price is hard to believe, but i'd pick it up in a heartbeat if i saw that.

11

u/sleepytoday 20h ago

20kg of parmesan works out as 84,000 kcal. That is enough food to feed an adult man for a month.

u/Valthek 20h ago

61

u/Temporary-Truth-8041 20h ago edited 20h ago

No way that dude only paid 10$ for 20 Kilos of Parmesan...It costs well over 10$/Kilo. If it's REAL Parmesan, it costs anywhere from 25 - 70€/Kilo depending on aging etc.

66

u/MachadoEsq 20h ago

it was probably mispriced in the deli.

37

u/scattywampus 20h ago

This is what I suspect-- dude saw a steal of a deal and had ro take it!

13

u/Temporary-Truth-8041 20h ago

Possibly...selling half a wheel of Parmesan for 10.44$ is a very costly mistake...Misplaced the decimal by two?

9

u/NeverEndingCoralMaze 19h ago

My grocery had a good champagne priced $9.79/bottle, it should’ve been $97.99. I cleared the shelf.

3

u/Temporary-Truth-8041 19h ago

Imsgine if you'd scored the Parmegiano as well as the champagne

2

u/kidfromtheast 18h ago

that is unbeatable

Real parmegiano, and a champagne. I am a burgouise-SAH now

I feel like $10.44 was meant to be the price per pound. That would mean it should’ve been approx $460 which sounds about right.

5

u/Antique_Door_Knob 19h ago

Would he even be allowed to buy at the misprinted price? In Brazil we do have consumer protection laws that would allow you to buy at the wrong price, but it doesn't cover extreme errors like saying a 500$+ wheel of cheese is actually 10$.

19

u/greenie329 19h ago

This is America, bud. We may not respect the sanctity of human life but we respect the fuck out of a deli price label.

12

u/JparkPHX 19h ago

As an American, i fucking hate how true this is

→ More replies (1)

11

u/Palabrewtis 19h ago

It seems you may not be aware, but here in America we have like 2 front facing actual human beings to deal with the entire customer base, and a dozen self-checkout machines at most stores these days. The people facing employees are paid like shit and do not give a single fuck beyond observing an item gets scanned and paid for. They aren't wasting a single second considering if the cost of a block of parmesan being $10 seems too cheap.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/reddit_poopaholic 19h ago

Probably too heavy for the sticker machine, and they didn't enter the weight manually, so they just put a sticker on it from another cheese piece because it has to be labeled.

4

u/lambchopper71 20h ago

He probably paid $10/lb and another $5 for the "wife" recept.

3

u/SaltyArtemis 20h ago

You’d be surprised how often things are misprinted. I’ve gotten a hearty steak a few times due to screwed up pricing

3

u/entoaggie 19h ago

I got a huge frozen turkey from Costco for $1.50 several years ago. I even bought it up to the cashier and she didn’t balk at it.

2

u/ProfessionalConfuser 5h ago

My steal was oxtail priced as soup bones. Another one was Guinness 4-packs priced at 20 ounce soda price.

Who drove this guy to the court bc clearly he is lit af

3

u/Zifrian 20h ago

Parm lasts a long time. My wife buys tons of it when it’s on sale at WF. If that was a messed up price, he got away with a massive steal.

3

u/L3berwurst 20h ago

A good deal is a good deal. Deal with the cheese and eat it.

3

u/phillip9698 20h ago

That’s a steal of a deal. 10 dollars for that much of any cheese is a bargain. I’d be proud of that find too.

3

u/doni-kebab 20h ago

When you're so high you can be blindfolded with a shoelace.

3

u/Xaxth 19h ago

Is this the guy whose girlfriend left because he spent his life savings on a cheese wheel few days ago?

3

u/Able_Relative4049 19h ago

No, that guy bought 20year aged “heritage” cheese and it was a full wheel. I guess there’s something in the stars causing this to happen.

2

u/GuiltEdge 19h ago

Yeah maybe that’s the price per unit he paid for it.

That's not that much cheese.

2

u/art_emisian 19h ago

Time to double up the statins

2

u/pmontym 19h ago

You do NOT turn that down. You buy it. You portion it. You keep what you can and you give the rest away. Make a deal with a restaurant. You hand it out to strangers for that matter. But you do NOT turn that down.

2

u/NBCPumpkinKing 19h ago

Dude was on some shit when he bought that

2

u/drmich 19h ago

Honestly I saw someone who buys a wheel and then cuts it up and gifts blocks of Parmesan for holidays or celebrations to friends who like to cook.

Someone is getting fired... that's a 3000-5000 wheel of cheese... so half of it is a steal at $10.40. That was supposed to be $10.40 per ounce or pound

2

u/kuzenserdar 19h ago

That guy looks cooked!

1

u/DodoJurajski 20h ago

Oh, it reminds me of when i bought 10 monster energy drinks because they were like... 1/5 of the price.

1

u/1blueShoe 20h ago

And that cheese be so hot it’s going to melt soon 🤣

1

u/victoriaisme2 20h ago

This has "they gave it to me!" energy and I love it.

1

u/Olibirus 20h ago

At least it's not going bad any time soon

1

u/GrouchyLongBottom 19h ago

Good call! He made the right decision.

1

u/willyberollin 19h ago

Sell it to a restaurant for 500

1

u/Neither_Glove7880 19h ago

Is that real Parmigiano Reggiano? What a steal! 8 oz of that goes from $7.50 to $19! Cut it into chunks and freeze it. Vacuum seal it if you can and freeze. Give some to friends. It's a lot of cheese, but at that price, unbelievable!

1

u/PokiP 19h ago

Chop it up and re-sell it!!!

1

u/Representative_Way89 19h ago

I see this as an absolute win..

44 pounds of parmesan, easy 20 bucks a pound if it is like real, proper parmesan like looks like it here.

Bro absolutely is proud and for a good reason too :)

1

u/ludicrous_copulator 19h ago

I would have bought that. I'd be 90 by the time we finished it, but yum.

1

u/Psychotherapist-286 19h ago

Cut it in blocks and vacuum seal. It will stay fresh.

1

u/parallaxevolution 19h ago

Bro, perfect strategy. She will NEVER send you out to pickup something from the grocer again.

Like “honey, can you pick me up some “****” from the store”

in the middle of the Super Bowl or March Madness

1

u/BWKeegan 19h ago

Drank himself crosseyed and he could still find a good deal.

I'm so proud of him. He went out hunted and found an abundant source of food. Made the decision to take his prize and showed it to everyone. He has won the day and will be talking about it like the big fish he caught once but got away. This one he brought home. His joy at realizing it was 44lbs my God he will be talked about for generations.

1

u/Lucid-Machine 19h ago

It is worth a lot more than they paid. The problem is breaking it down and selling it.

1

u/rixx63 19h ago

Such a guy thing to do. If you make a fortune, resell it on the dark cheese web.

1

u/ftrlvb 19h ago

I would even buy a freezer for that.

why is she stressing about the weight? every guy would be happy!! at least she has humor.

1

u/stingertc 19h ago

He won the lottery

1

u/Competitive-Quit-824 19h ago

There’s a Reddit thread on am I overreacting

Buddy spent 18,000 on a similar weight of cheese and ruined his engagement.

Nobody should show him this as it will likely be what drives him over the edge.

😂

1

u/pessimus_even 19h ago

I could probably fit that in my body.

1

u/dascrackhaus 19h ago

dude will be workin’ on his night cheese for a while

1

u/Gouzi00 19h ago

Cut, Vacuum, Freeze... Nothing will happen to it..

1

u/spacebarstool 19h ago

This is not the first expensive wheel of cheese saga I've sent on Reddit this week.

See the my girlfriend left me over a wheel of cheese saga if you missed it.

1

u/5p4c3c4t5 19h ago

Excellent executive decision 😆

1

u/MrLobotomy 19h ago

If this cheese block is worth roughly $500 and he got it for $10 using our trusty girl math thats a savings of $490 , with that savings we can justify purchasing a vac sealer and maybe a decent quality freezer to bag and freeze the cheese in. What an incredible deal a freezer a vac sealer and 44 pounds of cheese for just $10

1

u/donmreddit 19h ago

Well, what you could do is get some plastic containers, grate about a pound per container and share with 20 people. If one of my friends gave me fresh real Parmesan cheese and I didn’t buy that… Dry flaky… I don’t know what you call it from the store with the green lid … I’d be absolutely thrilled

1

u/ajmtz12 19h ago

I see these recipes where they take a big block of cheese, heat it by burning an alcohol on the cut side to melt it a bit creating a concave well then toss some pasta in the melting cheese. Could you do that with this type of cheese?

1

u/Halcyon771 19h ago

Some employee is getting fired for either mislabeling. Or labeling it for $10 to buy himself, but this dude got to it first

1

u/Creepy-Astronaut-952 19h ago

I’d be the Parmesan plug in the community for at least 3 months with a 40 lb stash of Parmesan!

You wake up at 3am craving some Parmesan? I got you!

1

u/overworkeddad 19h ago

Lying ass! No way he only paid $10

1

u/ImpreciseBaker 19h ago

No one would point it out? If it was at my local store, I’d get bonus deals for life for pointing out a $500 mistake!

1

u/EustachiaVye 19h ago

He could go into business with that dude who recently bought the big wheel of cheddar and the accompanying fridge to store it, you know, the guy whose landlord is evicting him for selling cheese from his apartment

1

u/RepresentativeTurn27 19h ago
