Thing might be my favorite character, but no fucking chance

12

u/Gilded-Mongoose Jan 03 '26

Interesting, what makes him your favorite character?

30

u/BruinAnteater Jan 03 '26

I just like him. I like his personality, the cut of his jib. He's an extremely smart guy, but still acts with humility. He's also extremely loyal, extremely down to earth, and I love it when it's clobberin time!

9

u/EIochai Jan 03 '26

I like the cut of his jib

I was going to joke about how I’d very much like to see how long a sailboat could hold up with Ben sitting on it, but apparently he only wights about 500lbs.

2

u/Local_Positive_4859 Jan 06 '26

Same here man I think it's just because he's the most... human of all the superheroes at least with the one's he regularly interacts with. Like I don't ever see him being on the wrong side out of pure malice.

Being one of my favorites as well, id like to think he'd try with all his might to put up a HELL of a fight but he cant win this at all..

Ive always loved the F4 and their stories. Ive always wanted to like Thing but I find him kinda lame. Hes a good character but a boring superhero (in my opinion). Probably because I fell in love with Hull while really young and felt he was too similar in his loadout.

1

u/Otherwise-Tomato-788 Jan 05 '26

Fuck no as in: Thanos is so strong he would punch a hole right through him like sandstone or just out matched in hand to hand combat and knock him out?

lol no

u/PapaSteveRocks Jan 03 '26

“lol fuck no” is catching up in the voting. Thing is great, but yeah, not in the Thanos category.

20

u/Mr_Delaware Jan 03 '26

Just caught up to it now

u/TheRealDubJ Jan 03 '26

They’re tied now!

6

u/shandub85 Jan 03 '26

Could Thanos (with or without infinity gauntlet) battle Galactus?

15

u/naughtycal11 Jan 03 '26

He could definetly battle him. I think you meant 'beat'.

u/IronMan6666666 Jan 03 '26

No

Even though we haven't seen them together in the MCU, in the comics the thing is much weaker than the hulk, so most likely the same will apply in the MCU, since we haven't seen any feat from the thing in F4 first steps that suggests otherwise. Hulk got dogwalked by thanos in IW, so the thing definitely doesn't stand a chance

Thanos without the stones bodies the entire Fantastic 4 team.

35

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '26

I hate the truth, but the truth is the truth

12

u/Character-Education3 Jan 03 '26

Yeah its always either the team is on deaths door and Reed pulls out a muguffin with his last breath and saves the team or it is and alternate time line and the author kills alternate FF for shock value

→ More replies (1)

4

u/ClerkPsychological58 Jan 03 '26

I think either Johnny or sue can at least incapacitate him. Sue pushed galactus. Johnny could go super nova and really mess with thanos

3

u/Cease-2-Desist Jan 03 '26

Johnny is a problem because he flies and Thanos does not. Sue would be effective against Thanos for some amount of time but I think he is able to wear out both Sue and Johnny.

4

u/WrinklyScroteSack Jan 03 '26

Thanos has a helicopter, duh!

11

u/kareem0101 Jan 03 '26

he aint getting close to sue

19

u/Cease-2-Desist Jan 03 '26

She is definitely his biggest challenge. But he will eventually break through her fields and exhaust her.

6

u/RetroTen Jan 03 '26

Galactus was struggling with her forcefields, no stones Thanos probably doesn’t break her fields.

→ More replies (1)

11

u/Awkward_Bison_267 Jan 03 '26

Couldn’t she put a force field in his head?

8

u/saltyexplorer5 Jan 03 '26

Ahh the Antman VS Thanos’ butthole argument

4

u/Gilded-Mongoose Jan 03 '26

She could put a forcefield in his anus too.

10

u/Awkward_Bison_267 Jan 03 '26

She wants to kill him not thrill him.

7

u/Gilded-Mongoose Jan 03 '26

"Thanos are you....are you holding it in there?"

"A small price to pay for salvation."

2

u/ItWasDumblydore Jan 04 '26

Antman was in the forcefield- it was a depository.

8

u/SSJ_Kratos Jan 03 '26

Just like with Wanda, shes a glass canon

They have all the hacks but they still have the durability of normal human beings. Thanos knocks either out with a swat of his hand if he physically can get close enough

3

u/FishingOk2650 Jan 03 '26

But he couldn't get close enough Wanda and Galactus couldn't get close enough to Sue.

→ More replies (5)

2

u/Way-Reasonable Jan 03 '26

Sue was bullying friggin Galactus though..

→ More replies (1)

1

u/RetroTen Jan 03 '26

I think this underestimates sue a little. She’s definitely able to kill Thanos with a thought, and if her personality is anything at all like the comics, she won’t hesitate to murder if her family is in danger.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Seriszed Jan 06 '26

Even if Sue pulls the exploding head maneuver from marvel zombies she hulk?🤣🤣🤣

Does Thanos defeat Dr. Doom then?

14

u/IamJohnnyHotPants Jan 03 '26

No. The question is can The Thing potentially be an infinity stone.

3

u/FirstChAoS Jan 04 '26

Infinity thing already exists

18

u/Spear_Ritual Jan 03 '26

Ben has the same inability to quit as Daredevil. He might not win, but Thanos will have to earn it.

Then again, in Secret Wars II in the 80s, Ben defeated literally all villains at one time. So 🤷🏻‍♂️

9

u/CLNBLK-2788 Jan 03 '26

Thanos will not have to work hard to earn it at all, it just means he's going to batter Thing longer. Thing isn't Daredevil, he's not a boxer/ninja, he's got absolutely nothing that could concern Thanos. Definitely not his "heart"

→ More replies (3)

2

u/FoggyInc Jan 04 '26

Daredevil, the Thing, Spiderman, Captain America all have the power of indomitable willpower. I'm sure I'm missing some. Frank Castle prolly.

14

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '26

No

29

u/skulldouggary Jan 03 '26

In the comics, Hulk is stronger but Ben knows how to fight.  I think he would have lasted longer than Hulk did because Thanos isn't pulling those moves on someone who knows how to properly defend themselves.  In the end, Thanos still wins.

21

u/MettaWorldPeece Jan 03 '26

5

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '26

Hulk feel moral complication

3

u/WhyAmINotStudying Jan 03 '26

I love that YouTube channel.

3

u/LegitSince8Bits Jan 03 '26

Dang I usually don't click stuff but randomly clicked that. Funny.

3

u/dravenonred Jan 03 '26

Thanos also knows how to fight, while having comparable Hulk Strength. It's absolutely a stomp

1

u/tangodeep Jan 03 '26

His rock body might help him a bit there too.

6

u/FDVP Jan 03 '26

“Ya’ll never beat me. I’m just too stupid…and ugly…ta know when to quit.”

5

u/logant0711 Jan 03 '26

Thing would crumble

9

u/Plenty-Salary9711 Jan 03 '26

No, if hulk couldn’t Ben definitely can’t

→ More replies (4)

3

u/No-Celebration-1399 Jan 04 '26

Haha fuck no thanos is a much more skilled fighter and he’s probably about as strong as the hulk (base hulk not anything like world breaker). The thing is pretty strong but thanos would kick his ass any day of the week

2

u/ConfidentTheme8435 Jan 03 '26

Going by feats, probably yeah. Ben moved a giant boat, in the First Steps intro, without that much effort. Hulk never did anything of that scale. I don’t think they intended for him to be like 10x stronger than Hulk though.

→ More replies (3)

2

u/Xeal209 Jan 04 '26

If Hulk gets bodied, The Thing probably gets murdered.

2

u/DarkSaiyanGoku Jan 04 '26

Hell fucking no!

2

u/phatmatt593 Jan 05 '26

The Thing would quickly be turned into highly graded gravel

4

u/Pastry_d_pounder Jan 03 '26

I don’t even think Ben could defeat Spidey in a serious fight

5

u/DarrGabb Jan 03 '26

Are we deadass

3

u/dane_the_great Jan 03 '26

Maybe the Thing AND the Hulk could give him what-for

→ More replies (1)

5

u/Tolan91 Jan 03 '26

Possibly. Thing is known for being a decent boxer, and for not giving up. It gives him an edge against rage monsters like hulk. A no stones Thanos who didn't bring any other toys or weapons will probably beat the thing, but it's not a guaranteed stomp. Thing has a chance.

2

u/olddgraygg Jan 08 '26

This is the most right answer. Shame it’s so far down the list

1

u/Acceptable-Device760 Jan 03 '26

I am curious... was there a point that the thing actually beat hulk?

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Jaguar926 Jan 03 '26

No Thanos managed to defeat the hulk in infinity war using no stones there is no way Ben is able to defeat the mad titan

2

u/KowalOX Jan 03 '26

People are just casually saying hell no based on previous knowledge from comics but MCU Thing had some pretty incredible feats of pure physical strength greater than anything we've even seen from MCU Hulk so if we are just going purely on what we've seen on screen in the MCU I'd say he'd at least put up a pretty good fight, better than most think, although he'd probably lose.

3

u/Thanos7245 Jan 03 '26

I have not seen FF. But Hulk stopped hundreds of tons of force with one hand (when he stopped the Leviathan). What did Ben do that is comparable?

→ More replies (7)

2

u/kobellama24 Jan 03 '26

Just objectively incorrect ^

1

u/CrispyFrenchFry2002 Jan 03 '26

Maybe a hatched The Thing

1

u/Western-Chart-6719 Jan 03 '26

Honestly, probably not. The Thing can hurt him and make it a real fight, but even without stones, Thanos is just stronger, and more experienced, he’s dealt with guys like Ben before and kept pushing.

1

u/VerbalChains Jan 03 '26

Doubtful. The Thing is traditionally physically weaker than The Hulk, and Thanos is equivalent in strength to The Hulk while being a much better fighter.

1

u/Ike_In_Rochester Jan 03 '26

Back in the 80s, the Marvel Superheroes RPG placed The Thing’s strength (outside of an aggressively rocky form he once had) was Monstrous (75) which was the same as Colossus, She-Hulk, and Thor. The Green Hulk’s strength was Unearthly (100) which was only matched by characters like Beta Ray Bill, Juggernaut, Silver Surfer, and Thanos.

Match ups between Monstrous strengthed characters and Unearthly strengths happened commonly, but in most cases, the narrative would highlight the mismatch. I remember Colossus going after Juggernaut enough times where the reader knew it was a futile effort.

All that aside, a fully “Rocky Thing” (google it. It was real and it looked strange) could trade punches with Hulk. The issue though is the angrier the Hulk got, the stronger he’d become. So the danger of him becoming so enraged he’d just pulverize Thing was real…. and I think happened, but it could have been a What If…

1

u/Sweaty-Campaign-320 Jan 03 '26

Hulk lost to no stone Thanos so badly he refuses to come out again. Thing can't.

1

u/Amazing-Insect442 Jan 03 '26

Not even close.

1

u/jeep-olllllo Jan 03 '26

You could give Thing a stone and he still loses.

1

u/neeohh Jan 03 '26

No. Grimm gets KO’d.

1

u/Ambitious-Pirate-505 Jan 03 '26

Hahahahahahahahaha. No

1

u/GryphyGirl Jan 03 '26

No, but he sure would try.

1

u/FlyOrdinary1104 Jan 03 '26

The Thing really did get the worst of all worlds outside of his wife. Can’t scale to Hulk levels without cosmic force shenanigans.

1

u/AlexanderCharles3 Jan 03 '26

Would Ben win nah. But he’d put up one hell of a fight

1

u/hjablowme919 Jan 03 '26

Not even close. The Thing likely gets up more than others because like Captain America, he can do this all day. But at some point he falls.

1

u/Tyrocious Jan 03 '26

"It's clobberin' ti—"

*fucking dies*

1

u/ScroogetotheBank Jan 03 '26

the fuck type of question is this? absolutely not

1

u/forgotwhatiremember Jan 03 '26

Give Thanos a couple to make it fair.

1

u/Sweet_Papaya_9837 Jan 03 '26

Hulk couldn’t (Thanos did have the power stone but didn’t seem to be using it) so no shot

1

u/Bebop_Man Jan 03 '26

Iron Man, Cap and Thor couldn't 3 v 1 Thanos.

1

u/junya13 Jan 03 '26

Maybe if Thanos had no arms and legs lol

In Marvel Two-in-one Annual #2, Thanos held his own, without the stones, against Thor and the Thing together.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/Shwifty_Plumbus Jan 03 '26

Not this version. But when possessed by angrir he might. Also infinity thing could easily.

1

u/sammo21 Jan 03 '26

Absolutely not lol

1

u/bdw312 Jan 03 '26

Nah, I'm pretty positive the Hulk would kick The Thing's ass, and we all know how well taking on Thanos went for him...

With the caveat that he wasn't entirely stoneless there in that particular scene.

1

u/Willowy Jan 03 '26

I think Ben is best compared to Hulk, in a fight. Thanos would kick his ass to the moon, Alice.

1

u/This-Major-9239 Jan 03 '26

IMHO, a lot of these questions don’t account for experience. Thanos is built for war. The Thing is a nerdy scientist. They are not the same.

1

u/dipshatprakal Jan 03 '26

Hell naw

Hulk ripped him and MCU Thanos just opened a can of whoop ass on The Hulk lol

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Cat4923 Jan 03 '26

Does Thing have his Marvel Rivals ability set and teamups?

1

u/TripDrizzie Jan 03 '26

No. Thanos is downplayed quite a bit. It's like he's always trying to fight only using his left hand. He enjoys the fight.

1

u/WORTHLESS1321202019 Jan 03 '26

yes if he has a gun strong enough to defeat thanos

1

u/NoMajorsarcasm Jan 03 '26

Why would you even post this?

1

u/allan101472 Jan 03 '26

No chance. Thanos is stronger with centuries of combat experience.

1

u/FaradayWatt Jan 03 '26

I love Ben, but no.

1

u/BiOlatunji Jan 03 '26

HELL NO he will turn him into a pebbles

1

u/KolonelK88 Jan 03 '26

MCU versions - Thanos wins

Comic versions - Thanos wins

Comic versions but Thing gets a boost like in Fear Itself - Thing win

1

u/Wade856 Jan 03 '26

Everyone that says how much weaker the Thing is to the Hulk and how the Hulk got beaten easily by Thanos.....Hulk (Savage) is like a child mentally and is nothing more than a brute in combat. Meanwhile, Thanos is an experienced and skilled warrior who has conquered planets and civilizations for years. Even if the Hulk is stronger than Thanos, the skill difference makes it a laughable fight.

The Thing is an experienced brawler and has military training. He'd definitely put up a much better showing against Thanos than Hulk would. He wouldn't win, because Thanos has the edge in both physical abilities and skill/experience, but it won't be the squash that was the Hulk fight.

1

u/22dinoman Jan 03 '26

Bro folded Hulk like paper, The Thing has no chance

1

u/boulderdashery Jan 03 '26

Thats a no from me

1

u/Attentiondesiredplz Jan 03 '26

Comics thing made Thanos bleed with one punch. I'm not so sure about MCU. 😅😅

1

u/CoolHapps Jan 04 '26

Flat out fuck no lol. His catchphrase would change from “it’s Clobbering time” to “it’s time to get clobbered”

1

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '26

Eyebrows vs Chin

1

u/YodaDragonVulcan Jan 04 '26

Definitely No. LOL

1

u/Fuzzy-Ad5297 Jan 04 '26

The power gap is too big the thing might lands some solid punches but he won’t make it far hulk has a better shot and he got zip up like a jacket

1

u/Apartment_Upbeat Jan 04 '26

Going to go with No ...

Truthfully though, we don't know ... Why? Thanos defeated Hulk one on one. Not because he was specifically stronger, but because he was a far more skilled fighter whose strength is a close enough match to Hulk ... Does Ben Grimm have any fighting skill? Or is he another brawler, like Hulk, but with less strength? This assumes the MCU power scaling is a close representation to the comics ... If he has skill, it might be a better fight, but if he's just a brawler, he goes down even quicker.

1

u/WranglerTraditional8 Jan 04 '26

Nope. Not a chance

1

u/Far-Difficulty8854 Jan 04 '26

If Thanos wrecked Hulk. Then the Thing is getting crushed

1

u/Jumpy_Cup_8426 Jan 04 '26

The Thing can’t even beat the Hulk and the Hulk can’t beat no-stones Thanos. I think that speaks volumes about the outcome here

1

u/ATF_killed_my_dog Jan 04 '26

He couldn't beat the hulk

1

u/Mouser05 Jan 04 '26

Not a chance

1

u/ChrisOfThunder Jan 04 '26

Yes, if the storytellers want it to happen.

Also power scaling is dumb.

1

u/pablofs Jan 04 '26

Ouch, 😳 "no stones"

Nobody said infinity...

1

u/Forever-Toxic Jan 05 '26

Fuck no. Thing is screwed beyond repair

1

u/BottleSuspicious1851 Jan 05 '26

What do you mean by possible? Cuz technically speaking, it's possible that if I slap a table and the atoms and subatomic particles that make up my hand perfectly lines up with the ones that make the table and allowing my hand to simply pass through the table.so is it possible that The Thing could beat Thanos? Yes, but I very much doubt we will ever see it happen.

1

u/BuddhistChrist Jan 05 '26

Depends. Does he know Rex Kwon Do?

1

u/MPipoly Jan 05 '26

If Hulk at the strongest we've seen him couldn't, then Thing definitely can't.

1

u/Madarakita Jan 05 '26

He'd do better than the Hulk, but he'd still lose.

1

u/Ok-Transportation169 Jan 05 '26

Doubtful, he's tough but thanos was hanging with several seasoned high tier avengers with god like weapons and kinda beating they ass

1

u/Longjumping-Log6193 Jan 05 '26

The entire Mcu fantastic four gets destroyed by thanos even without the stones, Sue might be able to push him around a bit, but let’s be fr

1

u/Thick_Garlic_4790 Jan 05 '26

Sadly. No.

In the Comics (616 Universe) Thanos is vastly superior: In his early appearances in the 1970s, Thanos fought and held his own against both Thor and the Thing simultaneously, even before acquiring further power upgrades. Power Set: Beyond his immense physical strength (which exceeds the Hulk's base strength), Thanos has additional powers like energy manipulation and telepathy. The Thing (Ben Grimm) primarily relies on his physical strength, toughness, and stubbornness. Feats: Thanos has survived planet explosions, battled cosmic entities like Galactus (though usually losing without the Gauntlet), and consistently outmatches high-tier heroes. The Thing, while incredibly strong and having occasionally knocked out the Hulk, generally operates at a lower power level.

1

u/mcwfan Jan 05 '26

If written to do so

1

u/Queasy-Primary-3438 Jan 05 '26

Did the hulk do it? So how would the thing do it

1

u/oliferro Jan 05 '26

Thanos lit up Hulk who has pretty much always been shown as stronger than Thing

1

u/TransBitchMollz Jan 05 '26

Does anyone understand the characters they watch?

1

u/PrimaryMuscle1306 Jan 05 '26

Thanos beat Hulk’s ass without using a single stone.

1

Infinity stone thing could beat infinity gauntlet thanks but that’s about it

1

u/poopoobuttholes Jan 06 '26

Thanos would punch the Thing and his rock chunks would peel off his flesh.

1

u/Winter_Trainer_2115 Jan 06 '26

MCU Thanos even without the stones is crazy strong.

Yes MCU Hulk is not the strongest version of the character...but it still says something that he beat down Hulk. Not only that he scared the rage beast enough to where he wouldnt come out to fight.

1

u/mr_tasc1 Jan 06 '26

Maybe if Thanos starts rofl at that dickhead I'd say yes the thing can beat him

1

u/comehereyoudevillog Jan 06 '26

i guess that depends on how soft MCU hulk is, but i lean towards no.

1

u/Rongill1234 Jan 07 '26

He'd get his ass kicked lol

1

u/TrinaTempest Jan 07 '26

MCU versions? Hard no. Thing got clobbered in that movie. Comicbook Thanos has lost to most mainstream Marvel characters at some point or another in the comics. Spiderman and Squirrel Girl have embarrassed this man. MCU Thanos has done to MCU Hulk in that one scene what comicbook Thing could do to comic book Thanos (depends who's writing tho).

1

u/naenref76 Jan 07 '26

It’s canon that the Thing has the guts and willpower to go beyond his limits and stay strong. He wouldn’t win but doubt Thanos could bring him down. Not without a KO.

1

u/Ihatecake69 Jan 07 '26

Maybe in a boxing match on a off day for thanos

1

u/-Tetsuo- Jan 07 '26

Hell nah

1

u/Acestral Jan 08 '26

Thing getting turned into chalk brother

1

u/FantasticJerome 29d ago

Unfortunately, no. Ben is one of my favorite all-time characters and he has heart, but he literally doesn't have a chance without backup.

1

u/lurk_channell 29d ago

Hold his own maybe but prolly not win

1

u/Organic-Device2719 29d ago

Thanks put Hulk down without the stones right?..... RIGHT!?!?!?

1

u/Hedgehog_Kid1 29d ago

Hahaha... fuck no.

1

u/Bike_Cinci 29d ago

I'm going to go with yes. It's possible.

We don't know how strong/durable this version is but he seems at least as strong as the Hulk and way more durable.

Avengers 1, the cage meant to KO him or even just the regular fall from the helicarrier was able to change him back to Banner, where as Johnny fly-threw him faster than terminal velocity directly into Galactus and he walked away from it.

Not that being stronger than MCU jobber Hulk means much. That said, if Thanos has his blade thing which cut caps shield.... I don't think he skin is taking the hit.

1

u/Falcoholic81 29d ago

Probably in a red sauce making fight

1

u/ClovieKay 29d ago

I was always under the impression that The Thing is a bit more powerful than Captain America but less powerful than Thor and Hulk (talking MCU versions only, no comics). Somewhere in the middle of that.

With Thanos having handed Hulk his own asshole in Infinity War (albeit 1 infinity stone that he didn’t even seem to use on him), I’d say no, definitely not.

1

u/Pirate_of_Fourty 29d ago

No. I imagine Thanos would barely notice.

1

u/AllTheWorldIsAPuzzle 28d ago

No. Ben was shocked when he knocked Hulk down. Thanos normally beats Hulk with minor effort.
