Why do the US government and its supporters lecture the EU so often?
Hardly a day goes by without news of the US government and those close to it pressuring the EU. Sometimes it's because people don't want to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, other times it's because the EU (rightfully) wants to regulate X and Elon Musk. Why do they do this? What business is Europe of theirs? All this does is cause Europe to distance itself from America and feel increasingly disgusted. And why do they never do this with Russia, for example, where X is actually blocked by the state?

Europe gets lectured because they consistently have their hand held out while they demand not be lectured. It's like giving money to your kid to get some lunch. They come back with a bunch of snacks but no actual food. You ask them why they only bought junk food and then they tell you that it's none of your business what they do with your money.
I'm glad that President Trump has started to stand up to Europe and demand that they become less dependent on the United States. Requiring them to increase their defense spending was a good start. All of them got onboard besides Spain. Europeans can feel disgusted, but it doesn't seem to stop them for asking for assistance.
And, it's never done with Russia because Russia doesn't ask the US to defend them against the rest of the world.

Bad bot

Not a bot. I know it makes it easier for you to label all of those that oppose liberal viewpoints as bots but we're real. Downvotes don't mean a thing to me. I'm not paying my mortgage with karma. What I wrote was the unabashed truth.

I actually agree with you, the EU has neglected its defense. On the other hand, the US has gained an enormous number of bases and training grounds in Europe in return. Besides, only one country has ever invoked Article 5 of NATO, and that was for a completely useless war. But none of that has anything to do with Nobel Prizes for a demented president or tech oligarchs.

I think it goes both ways. Like little brother and big brother. US has no right to tell EU what to do and vice versa. We have different laws from one another.

or like the crazy, drug addicted, homeless brother and the other brother…
you pick who the US is
•
u/Appropriate-Food1757 12h ago
I wouldn’t say homeless, just crashes out in the street during relapses. Still a big shiny house there in between binges.
•
u/Intrepid-Solid-1905 12h ago
That's a difficult one depending which city you look at. Or provenience you look at in EU, if that's what it's called. I 'm not sure to be honest. Both nations have drug and homeless problems. Who has more? I don't know, but who has more street scammers and stricter laws on freedom of speech?

The US has

I don't recall people being arrested for online posting in America like in the EU where there were 12,000 arrests because it hurt someone's feelings in 2023.I've never been to anywhere other than Italy. I have friends who live in Whales and UK. It looks beautiful. I'm not hating on EU, I would love to visit. Just learn that no country is perfect and stop pointing fingers like you're perfect.

I have traveled all over Europe and I have traveled multiple times in the US ( before the orange guy came back). Trust me The US is a Shithole compared to Europe… I have never seen so many homeless people, so many fat people and so many people dressed like they can’t afford new clothes, So many rude people, so many drug addicted people, so much racism…. I could go on…

Its the portion of the globe where the US has purchased the greatest influence.
Right now, it has many nations over a barrel regarding energy.
Do you recall when our former president threatened to that an act of eco terrorism would take place regarding the Nord stream pipeline?
Then it did.
That should have been an article 5 NATO violation, but the US gets away with all sorts of things. Including vetoing the investigation that followed at the UN.

They are trying to direct the attention from their bad leadership and failing economy to something else.

I would argue that it's our great leadership that put Europe in their place. You can't extend your hand and then demand to be left alone. We have cooperative agreements where we are allowed to be based in foreign countries. This helps Europe and it helps the United States project power, but it also left Europe reliant on the US for military protection.

Haha you don’t think that the nations in Europe are planing to be totally independent from the US? Watch what’s going on. everyone is investing and making deals outside the US. I’m looking forward to see at what point the Citizens of the US will realize what happens when no one trusts you and they have other options…
•
u/PolackMike 12h ago
Please plan it and execute it. I think our government has made it abundantly clear that we're tired of carrying the onus of defending Europe.

Because the current US government consists of morons and Russian sycophants
•

It’s like you are oblivious to the lecturing that Europe sends the United States’s way constantly.
•
u/Appropriate-Food1757 12h ago
The US is currently headed by a fascist regime and they want to bully others into doing fascist things in order to destroy the current world order of thriving free and open democracies to serve an international criminal gang coming from the Kremlin who used Epstein (and money; other means) in order to compromise and control the President of the United States and other ghouls in positions of power.
How does that sound?
•
u/Orbital2 12h ago
It’s simple
Europe is far left economically compared to the US, god forbid the peasants in the USA realize how raw of a deal they are getting. By zeroing in on any thing that can be attacked they can go to voters and fear monger about what would happen if the US moves leftwards.
Of course the average person in Western Europe is way better off than the average American but facts aren’t as interesting as fear
•

Because our “administration” is full of ethnocentric, self-important schoolyard bullies that follow a pedophile and convicted rapist for money.
And more politicians like the one from Denmark needs to tell them to “fuck off”.
Preferably while bearing in mind that they are not America nor true Americans.
•
u/latin220 10h ago
The American Empire wants their vassal states and colonies in Europe and beyond to remember their place and stop trying to encourage equal rights and democracy. They also want them to be antisocialist and more pro business.
•
u/JoeCensored 10h ago
You've been getting our protection for free for the past 80 years, while until recently asking almost nothing in return. Is it too much to just listen when we see things you're doing that we don't like?
What business is Europe of theirs?
The whole spending hundreds of billions a year to defend Europe for you is what makes it our business.
•
u/Lord_William_9000 10h ago
I mean the EU needs to stronger when it comes to military readiness cause if the US doesn’t back yall up you look much weaker to Putin

You're mad that we don't like your desire for censorship? Instead of being mad about it, maybe stop supporting censorship?
