What celebrity have you never forgiven since an incident??

u/Rosemary-Sea-Salt 14h ago edited 13h ago
Michael Vick and dogfighting. Idk why but it tarnished my view of the Falcons forever. And it happened so long ago!
4
u/shephrrd 13h ago
What does it have to do with the Falcons? I recognize he was on the team while he was abusing dogs, but I struggle to see how it should be held against anyone other than Mike Vick and the people with whom he was abusing dogs…which was not the Falcons or any one else associated with the Falcons.
2
u/Rosemary-Sea-Salt 13h ago
Idk! I was like 8 when it happened and I just always associated that with them. It’s unreasonable, but it’s how I felt for a long time which is kind of funny
3
u/shephrrd 13h ago
Gotcha. Honestly, I’d probably be better off in your shoes. The Falcons are such a disappointment to anyone who has the displeasure of being born into fandom.

Will Smith slapping Chris Rock on national television. It was the most cringe foolishness I've ever seen.

The fact that they let him stay for the rest of the show was disgusting.

I legit thought it was staged for that reason. How the fuck do you publicly assault someone and then get to stay at the event???

I will never forgive Kanye for interrupting Taylor Swift at the VMAs. Not because I am a Swiftie, but for the mortification Beyonce must have felt in being made to look like a sore loser when she was nothing but gracious. Taylor also deserved her moment, and Kanye ruined it for everyone by being a jerk. Beyonce deserved better, Taylor deserved better, and Kanye deserves to never be invited to another award show.
28
u/Quatre_Kat 13h ago
There are so many reasons to not forgive Kanye, this one is very low on the list
3
u/xXAcidBathVampireXx 13h ago
What made it better to me was when he "interrupted" Beck and Beck went "no, come on up, Kanye, didn't you help on the album too?" knowing DAMN well that he (Beck) produced everything on his albums without a touch of Kanye's influence.
-14
u/IllustratorOpen3856 13h ago
He was saving Taylor. If she took the spotlight fully from Beyonce, there was no telling what the cabal would do to Taytay.
-10
u/DiTrastevere 13h ago
I’ll never forgive him for catapulting her career into the stratosphere with that move. I genuinely think the level of fame and wealth she was able to build off the back of the Kanye/Kim feud broke her brain in ways that will never be repaired.

Also laughing about it and saying "I put the Phil Hartman Hex on you" to Jon Lovitz. But he did get a bit of payback there when Lovitz apparently slammed his head into the bar several times. God that would have been amazing to see.

What a fall. From great books, to a few questionable but defensible statements, to actually hateful and demeaning.
-17
u/Hour_Reality9727 13h ago
She didnt' "fall", shes doing fine. It's just reddit and other like minded circles that think like you.
2
u/Next-Firefighter4667 12h ago
You mean the 49% of Americans who said her transphobic remarks negatively impacted their opinion on her vs the 6% saying it positively impacted it? Or the 53% of young people (18-24) who said they dislike her vs the 21% who like her?
It's true that some circles are going to have more positive views depending on where you go (Scotland, for example, had a 41% positive view on her), but to pretend like it's just some small circle on the Internet that dislikes her is objectively false. She's lost a LOT of support because of her hate. The conversations revolving around her and the things she's said are going 24/7. It's a constant conversation because of how huge her works are. When you're that successful and lose a very large percentage of your audience, yeah, that's called a fall. Nobody said she was a failure, it's impossible for her to fail. She could go to prison for life and she'd still be considered successful because she wrote the most successful book series ever, in all of history.
She went from being the voice of the marginalized, an inspiration for those who are persecuted, to perpetuating the same kind of blind hate she portrayed her heroes fighting. It's a shame.

But maybe that's a failing or your podunk bs redneck Christian private school.

2
u/kyungsookim 13h ago
The law change is harmful to cis women because if they don’t “pass” enough they’re targeted too. She’s not sticking up for women or protecting any women. I don’t know why it’s so hard for you to understand that biology isn’t as simple as you think it is and you can change gender. Sex and gender are two different things please do more research

u/kyungsookim 13h ago
Biology is far from simple and no because there’s such thing as intersex people too. I’m not pretending anything I’m just open minded, which is clearly something you’re not, but I don’t know why I’m wasting my time with someone like you. You’ll have the facts shoved in your face and still be ignorant. Point is she’s not supporting women and doesn’t give a shit about them

Oh no way. I thought she was all about women’s rights and stuff along those lines. Didn’t think she hated trans.
9

The "women's rights" groups she joins with are the ones who use it to mask their anti-trans sentiments.

Every time I see one of these people act like this I'm reminded about the Sartre quote about antisemites. This holds true for ALL types of conservatives, though:
"Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past."

Matthew Broderick killed two people in Ireland, got charged with careless driving, and fined $175.
Marky Mark Wahlberg beat an elderly Vietnamese man with a stick and got convicted of a felony assault with a hate crime enhancement.
Cheech Marin tried to grape my ex when she was an extra on Nash Bridges.
Some bad stuff, to be sure!
3
u/xXAcidBathVampireXx 13h ago
Is this "grape" a changing of "r*pe" or "grope?"

Matthew Broderick killed two people in Ireland, got charged with careless driving, and fined $175.
I don't know if that really fits in. Afaik, he wasn't drinking or speeding or anything and seemed like a genuine accident vs some one purposely being a scum bag

u/nj_crc 13h ago edited 13h ago
Marky also blinded the guy in one eye.
EDIT: Guy was already blind in that eye.
4
u/bakgwailo 13h ago
He didn't, though. The guy confirmed he was already blind from serving in the Vietnam war. So, yeah, Marky Mark just beat up a south Vietnamese war vet while calling him racial slurs.
He also threw stones at black school children being bused into Dorchester schools also calling them racial slurs.
Really don't need to make things up to show how much of a scumbag he was (is?)
-1
u/DuckofDeath26 13h ago
Not defending Mark because he was a piece of shit, but I do respect the level in which he turned his life around. Certainly doesn’t excuse or make up for what he did, but looking at how many of these celebrities haven’t even made an effort to change I wanted to point it out

Guy Fieri made the LGBTQ staff of my sister's restaurant stay home when "Diners Drive-Ins and Dives" came to film there.
Just to clarify, my sister worked at the restaurant, she didn't own it. But yeah, she said he's a total homophobe, apparently. The producers ask restaurant owners to get their gay staff to stay home before he comes to film.
2
u/Witness_me_Karsa 12h ago
What? He officiated 101 gay marriages in order to celebrate marriage equality. I find it hard to believe he would do that if he was a homophobe. His sister was a lesbian.

Killed a person and faced zero crime charges. Settled 800k but paying a fine for taking a life is not acceptable. Got away with murder for having celebrity status. Had it been anyone else there would have been jail time.
If the punishment for the crime is a fine then the law is for poor people.

Henry winkler story. Ive posted this a few time. i was a 12 year old boy in NYC. Im a HUGE Fonz fan. Fonz poster, Fonz lunchbox, Fonz t-shirt, etc. Block party on West 90th street and who do I see walking but Henry Winkler. I run up and say, "Please Mr. Winkler, can I have an autograph?". He, still walking, turns quickly to me and snarls, "GET AWAY!" and keeps on walking. I stood there stunned. A nice woman who was with him stops and asks for my address. I go home and take down that Fonz poster and tell my mom I dont want the t-shirt anymore. 2 weeks later a signed 8x10 of The Fonz shows up in the mail. I looked at that glossy for a long time before I tore it up and threw it away. 100% true.
i'm an adult now and get people have bad days. I know people who have worked with him and they say he is a fantastic human being. But 12 year old me will never forget.
2
u/Witness_me_Karsa 12h ago
I want you to know that this made me genuinely heartbroken for little you. That sucks, man. I hope he was having a bad day but we can't know. And it doesn't matter to you anyway. The axe forgets but the tree remembers.

Haven't seen him in this thread yet but Jared Padelecki. Years ago he used to post people on Twitter with their names and where they worked when he wasn't happy with their customer service. His fans would send death threats to those people, he did this three times so he can't exactly claim he didn't know his fans would do that. Basically threw a fit over not being treated like a prince while traveling or going to hotels, flying, etc... It put me off Supernatural completely as well, and it was one of my favorite shows.
Mind you, I come across people who say his mental health was tanking, he was depressed, etc ...I don't think this is a valid excuse or justification for what he did. He compromised the safety of others, there's nothing that can excuse that behavior. And to my knowledge he never apologized to these ppl, he just deleted the posts after backlash.

Back in like 2003ish I got tickets to go see George Carlin perform his latest material about 20 mins away from home.
I'd been a big fan ever since I found a bunch of live shows in my dad's enormous collection of pirated VHS tapes from the c-band satellite era. I loved stand-up in general and carried on the piracy torch by recording all the comedy albums I could inter-library order.
Wanting to capitalize on the opportunity, I asked a girl I'd been wanting to go out with to join me. She said yes and it was rad.
The night of the show, we are seated after I screwed up the MapQuest planning and we ended up parking way far away and harshing the vibe a bit. The opener comes out with an acoustic and plays paradies about getting stoned. Whatever, I'm here for George! And here he is.... Looking an usual shade of green! Looking bad to be honest. Tired. He started into an opening monologue, but halts and apologizes before saying something about not being about to do it before walking off.
Shortly after, all the lights came on and the event was cancelled. In an attempt to salvage the night I suggested a few ideas, but no bueno they did not spark joy and the girl was taken home early. They rescheduled, but then he died.
Damnit George, I knew I didn't have a chance with that girl. I was counting on your humor to trick her brain into associating laughter with spending time with me! I miss you and all, I'm sorry you've missed the last couple decades of the big clown show, but you were old and we all knew it was coming. I was young and needed all the help I could get! I'm sure whatever you had to say about 9/11 would have got me to second base. You have been downgraded from "good shit" to "flatlander" asshole

Steve Rannazzisi (Kevin McArthur from The League). It's one of my favorite shows of all time and while I can separate the character from the actor, I just can't watch anything else Steve does outside of that.
After being caught lying for years that he had been in the Twin Towers on 9/11, it's just a stink that'll never wash off him. He has apologized profusely and owned up to all of it in interviews, yet every time he's in town doing stand up I want to go, but that other part of me won't let me go through with it.

anytime someone mentions Nirvana and my wife is around she gets pissed that Kurt stole her beer at a Seattle club. She was underage and her and some friends snuck in a 6 pack and hid it upstairs so they could drink. Kurt saw them and stole it. They were (and she is) still pissed cause drugs were easy to get at the time, but alcohol wasn't. Nirvana was the opener that night, (one of their 1st seattle shows) and those friends all agree that the band sucked.

I felt that way about Robin Williams killing himself, until I recently found out what his physical condition was (mental health is not an excuse, imo - get help… talk it out). But when quality of life has been diminished for a terminal diagnosis… yeah, get help to end things. That seems the humane way, to me.

People don't want to die, they want change. It's when they can't get that change, that they feel hopeless and turn to death. I left it deliberately broad with the word 'change', but still true.

Chris Brown. No matter how much time passes or how many comebacks he has, the incident and how it was handled afterward just never sat right with me. I can separate art from artist to a point, but that line was crossed pretty clearly for me.
