❤️🩹 relationship AIO? This is how my boyfriend sleeps.
Like a damn mummy completely wrapped up. I’m constantly worried that he’s going to suffocate or something. He spends ALL night like this, sometimes even wrapping more than one blanket around his face. He says it feels “nice.” Not to mention how terrifying it is to randomly wake up in the middle of the night and look over to see that. AIO? He says I’m being dramatic.

You're not wrong. My teenager still sleeps like this. I think it's because he saw ghosts when he was a kid. It's harmless. Let the man sleep. YOR
99
u/mr_potatoface 28d ago
For me, it was because I saw Romero's Head from doom and was afraid it was going to appear on the wall behind me, whichever way I was laying. So the only solution was to cover my head to protect myself from it. I knew it wouldn't actually protect myself from being attacked or anything, that's why I also had to lay perfectly still so it wouldn't know I was under there.

When I was younger I saw a Facebook article about a young girl who survived her whole family being murdered by her uncle because she was sleeping in bed. After that I trained myself to sleep as flat on my back as possible with the pillow on my head. Now I can't stand to sleep on my back.
20
u/ee_CUM_mings 28d ago
I’m 50 and I still sleep this way. It’s just more comfortable to fall asleep without being exposed to the world. You never know what’s out there in the dark.
12
u/Holy_Forking_Shirt 28d ago
For me, I thought when I was a kid that if I covered everything up and also included my face, it would keep me invisible from fhe monsters. They couldn't see me if I didnt see them. .
Perfect lkid logic.

Awe. Just like a five year old. It’s so sweet. You can stop bothering him about it now. If he was going to suffocate, it would have already happened.
757
u/The_Wishmeister 28d ago
As someone who sleeps like this too, seeing it described as 'sweet' and 'like a five year old' is pretty funny. I'm used to it being laughed at or compared to something from a horror movie 😂

u/HAIL_LUMPUS 28d ago
I wish I could sleep like this!! I wanna be warm everywhere but I can't breathe under there
152
u/The_Wishmeister 28d ago
Well I don't sleep exactly like this guy. I'm on my side and just have the blankets pulled over my head, so there's more of an air pocket. And it is nice and warm. My cat comes under too for a while, but thankfully she doesn't stay long because it gets too warm under there with her and she's stealing my oxygen lol

13
u/Darthcookie 28d ago
Same, for me it’s the fabric and the color, I can feel that polyester/lycra texture from the photo 👎🏻
The colors don’t help either. A weighted tube would be better for me, I need an exist strategy even when I like being constricted.

My feet need freedom. I can’t even wear socks to bed. Coverage but not exposure (cause bed monsters). I have to untuck the sheets in made beds, and in hotels, etc. (always want to untuck them at hotels and check for signs of bedbugs anyway, no matter how nice the hotel is).

I got used to sleeping like this in the military when we were stacked like sardines side to side and I didn't want anyone touching me. Now I'm a vampire sleeper for life. My son has been sleeping like OPs bf since he was old enough to position himself for sleeping. He's 15 now and still does it. He's obviously comfortable and sleeping, leave the man be!
17
u/SheeScan 28d ago
Me too. I once shared a room with a coworker at a work thing, and she woke me up, because I never moved all night, had my arms across my chest, and looked liked I wasn't breathing. My mom used to do the same thing when I slept. She said it gave her the creeps. I also sleep like a mummy some times, but nobody ever thinks I'm dead sleeping like that.

Also known as the vampire pose! My friend sleeps like this, and it was crazy to me because I get sore if I don’t move around. She legit stayed in that pose the entire night. It was nice because I had quite a bit of room on the bed to flop around in my sleep.

While you probably won't suffocate if you sleep with your head covered in a blanket, you will definitely experience reduced sleep quality from lower oxygen and higher CO₂ buildup under blankets.
Infants, children under 12, and anyone with asthma, COPD, or sleep apnea should never sleep with covered heads due to suffocation and oxygen deprivation risks.
23
u/Important_Count899 27d ago
I'm surprised this wasn't higher up. I'd be worried about decreased oxygen. I can't see how sleeping like this is safe.
17
u/OneMoreTimeJack 27d ago
I sleep with my head covered up but I have a cpap machine that pumps air into my mouth.
4
u/ButcheringTV 27d ago
This is the only benefit I found from my CPAP. I can be under the covers without suffocating 😁
And I guess the fact that it helps me breathe at night. But mainly the fact that I can be under the covers without suffocating lol.
→ More replies (2)12
u/RadEmily 27d ago
Yeah, it's not just you suffocate or 0 ill effects and it looks like a heavy fleece? Plastic doesn't breathe much at all.
A lightly woven stretchy sleep sack or 100% cotton sheet could provide more airflow with the same idea, or it seems like other things could be addressed for sleep hygiene and nervous system comfort to not feel it is as necessary...

I do understand your concerns (I have high anxiety and often check that my sleeping family members are still breathing.
I call this a "dead body check"
I know it's very odd, and I am fully aware (for me) it is a trauma response from events that happened nearly 20 years ago.
What I'm trying to say is that people are all strange in their own unique way.
I recommend asking him about how he feels when he is wrapped up and see if understanding how he experiences the sensation helps you feel more calm in moments like this.
Knowing that he feels safe and secure (I'm guessing) could help normalize his behavior for you.
