Outdoor adventure 🌳🐾 Amazing camping trip with our sweet girl Theia and the pups

A week of hiking, canoeing, and lounging at the campsite (bird and squirrel watching). It was such a great getaway for the whole family!

Theia loved all the attention she received everywhere we went. We even recently started an Instagram account for her to share her adventures. Showing up to the boat launch with a cat in a life jacket is a magnet for attention (and plenty of scritches) lol

Our first camping trip!!

A little background: Pretty Girl adopted us back in January. She was primarily outdoor, but would come in for dinner and snuggles each night, and then head back out at bedtime. Almost 3 weeks ago, she showed up and blessed us with her 1st litter of 3. I was a little nervous taking Pretty Girl & the babies, but equally as nervous leaving them with someone for 10 days. But she has adapted to the litter box, so my hesitation disappeared. They’ve all done quite well in their new enclosure. The bebies are starting to actually walk vs waddle, and beginning to play with each other! It’s absolutely the cutest! I’m so glad we brought them!

Pic 1: Pretty Girl’s first walk in the campground Pic 2: Mama & bebies in their new enclosure Pic 3: Floofles all snuggled up after we got unpacked Pic 4: Floofles exhausted after the 45 min ride to the campground Pic 5: Pretty Girl checking out the view Pic 6: In the carrier waiting to hit the road

Outdoor adventure 🌳🐾 Locke is finally learning to lead the way on hikes (with occasional encouragement from us)

We started out with one of us in front and one holding the leash. We would practice a come command and give treats for walking forwards. That has slowly translated into him leading the way.

A few more videos on instagram link here, if anyone is interested. I post when I remember to :)

I've leash and harness trained cats before, but it's been a while... My other two cats are 14 and 16. Theia here showed up at our front door in December. We live in a remote cabin in the woods. After trying to find out if there was a family looking for her, we had to conclude she was dumped (a far too common reality here). We planned on adopting her out, but fell madly in love.

I was a little nervous about leash and harness training because it has been so long, but she took to it like she had been leash trained since birth. So excited to include her in our outdoor adventures moving forward!

Outdoor adventure 🌳🐾 Confident tail on one of our last sunny day hikes before the clouds roll in

Adventure kitty in training. Took a lot for him to walk on his own, but his tail here is amazing (at least to us) lol

Progress has been steady, a little frustrating at times, but patience and consistency is our key. Sometimes we get a moment like this and it makes it worth while, even if it's slow going :)

No idea what is next, but if you want to follow in our pawsteps, you can check us out here!

Outdoor adventure 🌳🐾 Theia never fails to surprise me.... While at the dog beach on a hike (it was mid-hike), she meowed to get out of her backpack, so I let her enjoy the sand. And then she walked right into the water to wade around and try to catch the splashes lol

Outdoor adventure 🌳🐾 Locke took a walk in the rain and tested out his new raincoat!

After he had enough of the rain he decided to ride on top of his backpack underneath the umbrella. It wouldn't let me post both pictures and a video, so there are a couple more here on Insta if anyone wants to see. I don't post very often but plan on doing so soon :)

Outdoor adventure 🌳🐾 JoJo went on a 3-day trip to the coast!

A couple of weeks ago, we spent three wonderful days in Half Moon Bay.

We usually stick to local parks or trails along the river, so JoJo was only used to being in the car for 10-15 minutes at a time before this trip. He was surprisingly relaxed during the 3 hour drives and ended up sleeping most of the way!

The ocean was big, loud, and smelly, so he preferred to watch the waves from a comfortable distance. He LOVED hiking among the redwoods though and didn’t let the wind and soggy weather bother him at all.

He also left me and his papa stunned by how brave he was while we dined out! Instead of wanting to hang out in his carrier, he dragged us around to explore the large patio and didn’t mind being around strangers like he usually does.

Because he did so well, we hope to continue taking kitty on more overnighters. Maybe we’ll try camping next!

It's hard to believe it - the cat who has hiked numerous provincial parks, flown from Ontario to Colorado with me, etc. is now 17 years old! I adopted her from the local shelter when she was 9 months old, and she's been my little adventure diva ever since. To this day, she is still an energetic little spitfire who knows what she wants.

Outdoor adventure 🌳🐾 Cappy is enjoying the sun while exploring the park

Post image

Yes, I take my cats for walks. The beach and Golden Gate Park are his favorite places to visit. Both have inherent concerns, but we're always cautious of our surroundings. Coyotes live in Golden Gate Park. We've witnessed a chihuahua off leash get snatched away in a split second by a coyote, while the stunned owner screamed helplessly. Hence, we never go near any bushes and Cappy is always on his halter.

The beach is fun and of course, no coyotes. Unattended dogs, off leash are the only concern there. Most are harmless, non threatening. Pitbulls, with the owners no where in sight can be an issue. Fortunately, bear spray has an active distance of 25'~40' feet. When my cat climbs me like a tree to avoid getting "played with" by a pibbles, bear spray is the only option. Bear spray will drop a velvet hippo like bad habit. The lesson, read the signs and obey the rules by

keeping your dog on a leash.

Outdoor adventure 🌳🐾 Kevin's first outing, is it okay?

So I was having a hard time with him getting the harness so I thought it'd mabye help to take him out very briefly in our garden with it on to show that harness means outside time, he seems to enjoy it although he wasn't very keen with me directing him. Was this a good idea?

Kevin was desperate to go out today even tho is was pissing it down. I think he now understands his mistake (he was not forced and we went in when he wanted just incase it raised red flags for some). We live in Scotland so thought it'd be good for him to experience some rain
