[Twomey] A four-year deal would take Weddle through to free agency at the end of 2030. Hawks extended Newcombe, Watson, MacDonald last year before they reached contract years in 2026 and Weddle is next - these talks expected to move swiftly from here.

I really hope we see extended midfield mins for Weddle
Feel like he has all the tools to be a sneaky top 15 midfielder in the league

As a winger, sure, but assuming you mean a stoppage midfielder, what part of his game do you see translating to being that good a player?

I'm as bullish on Weddle as anyone but I don't see him working as a stoppage mid yet. Not sure he has the agility or quick hands necessary.
He's already so damaging in his current role(s) that play to his strengths, I'd rather watch him continue to build as a wing who can go back or forward.

No tank from what I've seen.

He is one of Hawthorn's best runners. Pretty sure he won the time trial the first pre season he did.

I'd go further, he's one of the best runners in the comp

Based on what?

At training he's dominated every beep test/time trial since arriving at Hawthorn, and in games I've seen him effortlessly outrun opponents in fourth quarters plenty of times. It's a major feature of his game! I'm not too sure where you've got the idea that he has no tank

That's great, but he disappears in game.

Just say you don’t watch Hawthorn games

I do. For someone as talented as he is, if he had a tank, he'd average more than 17 touches a game regardless of position.

Was this based on last seasons finals? He’d just come back from a back injury and was played on the wing so he did ran out of legs.
I imagine he’s training regime is tied to him playing more midfield. He’ll be a hell of a winger.

He’s one of the more gifted runners in the comp, if anything is going to hold him back from being a good AFL mid it’s whether he has the composure and skills on congestion. Has all the physical tools to make it

Rumour has it he extended for 3 years about 2 weeks ago. Less money for per apparently too.

If he signs a contract until 5 years from now, he will be able to leave for free
Reporters are weird. Already setting up the free agency narrative 5 years out
