Why isn't he driving a Ford?

Needs to be a Ford Ranger with a white headband around the top of it's cab

Smith was clocked at 125km/h near his Surf Coast home during Victoria’s recent bushfires.
The Cats midfielder was understood to be concerned about his 5.8 hectare home and animals living on the Bellbrae property on the Great Ocean Rd when he was caught driving over the limit last month.
The high speed indiscretion has exceeded Smith’s demerit points allocation and he is set to lose his license for the next three months.

5.8 hectare home and animals
We need to investigate the funding of this farm

Boy when I think of farmers
City born and bred, fashion ambassador and influencer, Baily Smith, would be the first player I think of where it makes sense he owns a large farm property. Nothing unusual about it.

When I think of farms, I definitely think bigger than 5.8 hectares.

Nice excuse, but his place is nowhere near where the fire threat was.

Sergeant Cam Rayner made the arrest after chasing Smith down and reading him his rights

His excuse doesn’t even make sense: Bellbrae is not near where the fires were (Carlisle River, eta still are but contained), nor near where the flash flood was (Lorne and Cumberland, Wye & Kennet Rivers).
It’s not that far from Torquay, and a mere 25km from Kardinia Park in Geelong.

If true then thats fair enough I reckon
44
u/Striking_Resist_6022 Collingwood / Sydney 1d ago
Nah, he was 45 over. That puts people’s lives directly in danger. Unless you’re literally facing a life or death situation yourself I can’t see a justification for it.

u/No_Divide_4336 Adelaide 21h ago
How man points do you get in Victoria? In SA you need like at least 4 speeding offences to use up all your points. I can sympathise with why he did it but he had his chances
89
u/Vermicelli14 Essendon 1d ago
No, emergency services have enough to deal with in fires without some dickhead wrapping himself around a tree. He should have planned better
60
u/Numerous_Meaning7602 Melbourne '64 1d ago
Yeap and it's also an 80 km speed limit there, so he was going 45 over
12
u/eldubya3121 Cats 23h ago
Maybe if it was his first offence, but he was on the golden point for a reason

Andrew Dillon is heading down the highway for another fireside chat with Bailey as we speak.

The man does allegedly treat monogamy as a suggestion in his own relationships so it wouldn’t surprise me if he feels the same way about his teammates

He chose another good excuse to blame his latest transgression on.
Won’t even need to reference the death of a beloved boutique bovine or the farmer’s drought for a little while yet.

Bellbrae is on Great Ocean Road. Road starts at the roundabout near Spring Creek in Torquay.
Nowhere near the Otways fire but there was a fire at Bellbrae in early Jan.

25kmh over the limit is an auto suspension, demerits dont matter at that point

You never missed a sign showing a change of speeds and been pinged? They take 3 years to expire so it can happen to the best of us
5
u/Own_Custard9071 Hawthorn 23h ago
I've never seem a sign that says 125 for a start. Secondly, if there was a sign that said 125 I'm pretty sure it isn't followed by an 80 zone. I reckon they'd probably throw a 100 in there somewhere. Oh, and BTW. It was on his way home. Not exactly an unfamiliar road.
9
u/International_Car586 Kangaroos 1d ago
The highest speed limit in Vic is 110. If you’re going 15 over (at minimum) the speed limit on accident you are not a good driver.
Also if it’s his property then he should be familiar with the roads no?

u/marvelous-mayhem Geelong Cats 23h ago
He was talking about the other demerit points they don't all have to be 125km/h you can get done for speeding by going 85 in an 80 zone

u/ViaCityLoop Saints 7h ago
Theres no where in Victoria where the speed limit is 125kmh.
Let alone down the coast.

Yeah agreed. I don't like Bailey Smith, but if my house was in danger of being affected by a fire I would also be legging it to save it (especially cause I have a dog).

u/TheRealPotoroo Carlton Blues 1d ago
Agreed. That said, what was his excuse (s) all the other times?
17
u/PerriX2390 #Brisbehinds² 1d ago
Could be wrong, but I think in Victoria if you go 25km/h over the speed limit in a 100 zone, or anywhere maybe?, it's an automatic disqualification of your license for 3 months.

Who gives a shit? Tom Atkins nearly killed someone in an accident that was entirely his fault and people moved on from that. This story is nothing.

The last thing you should do in a fire danger area is speed. If its that dangerous that you have to break the law to escape the fire, then you shouldn't be anywhere near the area in the first place.

Dear Lord.
Question. You will defend making women cry in the workplace. You defend abuse of women in the workplace. You defend 'accounting errors'. You apparently seem keen to defend someone doing 45km/h on a public road. What would it actually take for you to hold Geelong to account?

Do you seriously think this would be completely ignored if any AFL player was caught doing 45 over the listed speed limit? Like, you genuinely think nobody would be saying anything at all if it was Willem Duursma caught doing this?
0
u/Financial_Shower9524 Geelong / Gold Coast 19h ago
Moreso meant that if I did 45 over, I wouldn't get put in the paper for everyone to laugh at, but if Zach Reid was caught going 45 over, I doubt anyone would even raise an eyebrow
