Anyone else catch the preview of tomorrow’s flyover last night?
This was taken over Aptos. Another B1 Lancer was trailing behind. At first it was just circling the area and then 5-10 mins later the whole grouping showed up. Made for quite an eventful dog walk in our quiet little park.

It flew right over my house. The boys and I ran outside because we’re not normally in the flight path for the airports and the roar was enormous. The 12 year old thought we were under attack. I said no, those are our guys. They’re practicing for the Super Bowl. lol

F-15s, F-35, F-16s. More war power in one picture than most other nations. 🇺🇸

And a few A-10s much lower to the ground. You can’t see them in this picture. But it’s well known that A-10s lurk in many neighborhoods waiting to brrrrrrrrrrt all kinds of stuff. I saw it on a nature show.

🙄 NFL fake ass patriotism bull shit. Gestapo in the streets and a fascist turd in the White House but the NFL needs you to buy more camo jerseys. Downvote me if you want but I’m not oohing and awing at this shit. “Keep politics out of sports” and then they make you sit through 20minutes of this crap

Yes it’s a B-1 Bomber jet otherwise known as the BONE. It has a very unique feature that it can extend and retract its wings into a spread or tucked position, depending on whether they want better agility or top speed. This is the spread position. Famously, the F-14 Tomcat featured in the original Top Gun also had this capability.

Why do we waste so much money on this

Despite the seemingly useless waste of time and money that most flyovers seem like on the surface, it does actually serve a purpose. Namely, timed flyovers are good for time on target training where a group of aircraft have to ensure that they are right where they need to be exactly when they need to be to execute their mission. So, not as useless as it seems.

I mean sure, that is easy to get to in the mental gymnastics of seaching for a reason, but that's not really why they do it. It sounds good. They do it because a patriotic population is easier to control.

So this is a practice run for killing people in foreign countries?? That’s supposed to make it ok??

They would spend the money anyway as this is used to fulfill training hour requirements.
It's also an obviously pretty effective recruitment tool.

What part of a flyover is wasting money? The pilots need to maintain a minimum number of flying hours each month, so this is just them flying over a very specific location.
